When is it Time to Call Hospice?

Updated: Jun 21, 2019

When a family member is dealing with an end of life illness, it is important to develop a care plan as soon as possible. Discussing and making plans for end of life is not an easy topic to approach with family. However, developing a care plan will make the transitions and decision making much easier as illness progresses.

Depending on your loved one’s needs, hospice can put together a team to help the family that can consist of:

  • Register Nurses

  • Social Workers

  • Home Health Aides

  • Trained Volunteers

  • Chaplains

Hospice can still provide services and develop a care plan even if your family member is living in a nursing home or long-term care facility. In situations where the family member is no longer living at home, insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid may dictate how hospice services are provided. That is why planning ahead is important.
